Wide and Varied Interests
Art
- Mostly photography, my strengths are digital and to some extent composition (often altered or modified on the computer). I actually really enjoy holding my camera out randomly and snaping random photos without looking in any view finder. This approach shows in my photos, often blurred or what I wanted is cut off... etc. But I think it is fun. But I am a picture pack rat. I might find a small 1 or 1/2" square of an otherwise bad photo that I could use for an ad, a button, an pictoral expression, etc.... Maybe I am crazy but I like it...
- I enjoy other forms of art as well (I love sculpture and carving and painting and great photographs... video is a lot of fun as well), but I am incapable of producing them myself for the most part other than the digital stuff... Video and photography now.
Technology
- I love technology, and I sometimes hate technology (usually because its not good enough... they release way too much crap and torture millions of Americans... I used to write software and argue with the Marketing Department who wanted the proverbial "kitchen sink", but they only had allocated enough development time for the most basic functions and features. So I get it the whole "marketing - window of opportunity". I think this is very true, but I also think when companies like Microsoft and Norton are two good examples start releasing things that don't "really" improve thinks until 6-12 months down the road when they have released 50 auto downloading, (reboot your machine at their beck and call), patches to fix the bugs in their "proto-type" release). I am not trying to really beat up on the techies or programmers or the marketing folks... Its just life, but the head management has to balance this and balance their "greed" factor. The upgrades are getting more and more expensive and the feature improvements fewer and fewer... Then what happens is customers get frustrated, competitors see opportunity and seize it... For example how google is siezing a lot of web "real estate" with "free" aps and software. I personally think to deal with it you hold off on new technology upgrades to the extent possible and wait till you get a new machine, cause you usually need the newer faster machine to run the fatter more exhaustive "upgraded" software. I also think it wise to always be looking for a better way... a newer more efficient, better root or core technology underlying the tool. The internet is full of new and exciting tools and features and links that can be woven together like here on yola. It is exciting, but I also know from years of software development that we need to be careful not to "assume" that todays design or base will accomodate all of tommorrows new technologies and capabilities. I worked hard for over 10 years designing and writing software that was as "flexible" and "forward thinking" as I could. Some companies are doing this and some are either shackled to their old school technology and foundation or inable or underfunded to rebuild the foundation... Plus as a large software application matures, you develop "virtual shackles" from known features, process flows, etc. where when you introduce a new one it upsets people used to the old way even if the new way is better... The reason they get upset I understand better now... more as a user... We have to get our work done and it pisses me off to have to reboot my computer to get something to work, or having to download or upgrade some software when I don't want to ... Software should increase productivity, yet in reality, we spend half our time trying to get all the technology to work "right" or remember where that little piece of the puzzle is, because we have uncoordinated work flows and a series of tools rather than one tool. Software should model the business, rather than the business, modeling around the software, but all too often we are stuck with the later... It will continue to improve with AI type management software that glues the pieces together seamlessly. This is what "google wave" is attempting to accomplish. (I guess I should of made this a blog post.... enough for now)
Logic
I know logic doesn't always apply, but I like to try and analyze my decisions logically rather than emotionally.
Scuba
I love scuba diving. I was/am a founding member of the "Colorado Beeracudas Dive Group". But my life as a "Realtor" has not been good for my diving aspirations. I have only been 1x in 4 years as a Realtor. I used to go on at least 1 trip per year and usually two. But my ex-wife worked for the airlines and was a travel agent previously, so she booked the trips and usually got our airfair and/or hotel at a reduced rate, but unlike lots of dive trip organizers, she didn't "make money" off of people.
I have been diving in
- Belize (3x - 1x - Glovers Reef, 2x-Ambergris Caye)
- Cayman Islands (3x - 2x Grand Cayman, 1x Cayman Brac)
- Bayman Bay Honduras
- Bonair - Captain Dons
- Coasta Rica
- Florida Keys - Key Largo and Key West
- St John - Day dive(s) on a cruise
- Cozumel Mexico (3x)
- Australia - Great Barrier Reef
- Egypt - Red Sea
Reading/Skimming
Don't get to sit down and read a good book nearly as much as I would like or enjoy. Yet the desire is still strong. The need is being filled to some extent by the internet and all the blog posts, news articles, reviews, sales copy, etc. that I read.
The Beach - I just love it looking at it, playing on it or swimming in the ocean by it. I probably love it because I can't be by it very often.
The Mountains
I enjoy spending time in the mountains, hiking, camping, fishing, four wheeling, etc. but recently seldom get to. Like looking at them from a distance on the Horizon as well. I did get to frequent them a lot when I was a radio tower guy. I need to dig up some of my old tower pics to post up. I saw some awesome things... 200' up in the air on top of a mountain. Kind of a helicopter like view... Also have some good tower shots if your into that kind of thing.
Photography
See Art... I like tweaking the photos... Want a nicer SLR digital camera.
